Web-based multi-platform, which has been designed and developed by the GeoCHOROS – Geospatial Analysis and GIS Research Group, at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, for the online harvesting, processing and visualization of urban fear of crime data.
Fear of crime refers to the fear of being a victim of crime as opposed to the actual probability of being a victim of crime. It can also be defined as the «collective anxiety of the inhabitants of a region, city or country, which comes from the fear of a possible victimization of themselves or their close ones by violent and/or criminal attacks». Some basic crimes that occur daily are:
Burglary, theft, vandalism of private property, drug use and/or trafficking, physical violence, verbal violence, racist assault, homophobic attack and sexual abuse.
